As long as all the players in the current game of MONOPOLY agree on the rules and the the value of worthless currencies, 2011 will be about as interesting as 2010. everyone is still muddling through. The only things that I have seen in the last 10 years that gets the masses riled up are huge events like 9/11, Katrina, the Indonesian Tsunami, etc.
As long as the Great Unwashed have their distractions, life goes on.
Rest assured that voting in a new set of representatives will be a complete waste of time when their votes are not required to execute new legislation called "regulation."

Interesting comment, and probably spot-on in view of the JFCOM mission. It is worth noting that JFCOM is being disbanded. Go figure ..

I believe the high-teens unemployment figures they cite for Blacks (they capitalize it, and don't hyphenate "African-American") are accurate for ALL Americans, it's just that Big Media accept the positive spin Big Government lays on them, that the "recovery" is just "a little slow."
FR also had a link to a Jesse Jackson TV interview in which he calls for a "radical reordering of the American economy" because most of the people he sees in homeless shelters are working people who can't afford rent; women and children.
Well, the government mandates that married or cohabitating couples with children cannot get assistance. It's hard to imagine how one person can make it financially today. It used to be that only one parent HAD to work, before we were taxed to death, and the other could stay home and raise the kids.
And... he treats this as some huge revelation, that a living wage is hard to come by. PhDs are working as receptionists, master's degree holders lucky to be store clerks, and high school graduates deliver pizzas and flip burgers.
Commenters point out that the economy IS about to be radically reordered. For everyone, regardless of race.
This article says for every one million jobs created here in the U.S., 1.4 million jobs overseas were created by U.S.-based companies.
While I believe that PROPORTION may be correct, or a little bit of an underestimate...
Do YOU believe a million jobs have been created here? Where are they? About half a million people apply for unemployment benefits for the first time every month.
I think the media are still trying to convince us there's a recovery going on, but it's just a little slow right now.

A story that could apply to every U.S. city.

This is nothing more or less than common sense, something exceedingly rare in the District of Criminals. I do remember a reasonably honest politician, Reagan, who often times stated the truth when complaining about the role of government with the following quote:
"If you tax something, you get less of it; if you subsidize something, you get more of it."
Again, common sense - not exactly proof of the Grand Unified Field Theory. However, if the dumbshits in DC would actually stop taxing hard work, job creation and savings, we might well get more of them; conversely, if they stopped subsidizing sloth, if they stopped making it so easy to make due with just that government check each week or month, maybe a lot more people would have a big incentive to find a job, or to create a new one of their own - and thus become taxpayers instead of recipients from the treasury (or Ben's imaginary checkbook, as is really the case these days).
I am under no illusions that the new Republican House will bring vast changes, and particularly changes in the direction that we readers of this blog would like to see. Frankly, even if the House was composed solely of readers of this blog who were gung-ho about making such changes, that's not the entire Congress and there still remains a presence at the other end of Pennsylvania Avenue that would quickly quash any drastic actions. However, the House does control the pursestrings, and there are some good noises about cutting spending significantly coming from the new members and some of the old ones. We really have no choice but to give them a chance - combined with constant reminders that We The People are watching them like hawks, and that we'll vote them out of office if they don't do substantially what they promised to do. I'm not holding my breath, but I am somewhat hopeful.
In any case, if they don't stop the uncontrolled spending, Mr. Market (in the form of those foreigners who accept dollars in exchange for goods that we buy) will put a stop to it. The train is headed for a concrete abuttment, and it will stop either through the quick and firm application of the brakes or by hitting the abuttment at whatever speed we're at when we reach the end of the line. This simply cannot continue.
