I'm really struggling to wrap my mind around this.

The DAG who made the tweet is allegedly "right wing" and will probably be linked to the Tea Party in short order.

On the other hand Mother Jones would probably celebrate his comments were he speaking of a group of Tea Party or RTC protestors.

Lastly, does this thugs tweet make the unionists any less thugs?

As I asked in e-mail: is this simply thug-on-thug or is it theater designed to get the spark to the powderkeg?

There is an updated status on the Indiana DAG. Any bets on his next position? Perhaps Rahm Emanuel will have an opening on his staff for such a talented individual.

Did you go read the actual tweets or, like Denninger, just go by Mother Jones' editing?

Incidentally, you'll note that the geeky little lawyer was fired for his tweet. Yeah, that's JUST LIKE Egypt...

Everybody seems to forget the moral of the story of the boy who cried wolf: If you tell people it's "2 Minutes To Midnight" for fourteen hours straight, then when midnight finally gets here, they'll all have gotten bored and wandered off.

Okay folks, from what I gather this tweet was from a private account. At the link I saw a large number of "no one should be advocating violence" posts. Do you stand with that? If so, what's this no more free wacos thing I've been seeing around this crowd? You planning on removing someone from your Christmans card lists, or what?

Violence is the only thing that's going to end this entire mess... fire up the verbal lashings but I'm afraid it's the sad truth. All talk and discouse have brought us are a long slow slide to the place we stand at now.

I find myself watching events here on the web and hoping that it's the start of the end. I'm not bloodthirsty, deranged or unbalaced. I do want enough time left (if I make it through) to hopefully build or start to build a future for my kids though. The sooner we get through the fire, the sooner that begins.

If you think I'm wrong, then by all means keep voting and hoping, beat your chest and go to the range once a month to show off all your latest tacticool attachements.

This Indiana guy was simply voicing the inevitable.

Yeah, I don't think this is as simple as Denninger at least wants to present it. The guy is very clearly right-wing. He advocates the use of violence against leftist thugs. I just don't have that big a problem with such an attitude. This is not a matter of government vs people, it is a matter of civil war. If this still was a country with a thriving civil society, if the left and the right had enough in common to present a united front against government, if the rule of law was dependable ... then sure, it would be outrageous. You don't advocate using violence against political enemies, because you don't want to be on the receiving side of such tactics, and losing a political fight shouldn't be so cripplingly painful that people feel forced to resort to violence to stop it.

But that's not the nature of the society we live in anymore. In political questions, the left always wins, and if it loses that just means the contest was rigged and unfair and needs to be redone over and over until everyone agrees the left wins. No leftist principles are ever abandoned; only right-wing principles are negotiable. That's how it works. The principles of civil society have _already_ been abandoned.

What is going on in Wisconsin is effectively a war of the unions against the taxpayers. To call for use of live ammo against the union members ... look, they act like enemies, they want to be enemies, they do everything enemies would do, why is it such a stretch to actually treat them like enemies?

Tam:

Appreciate your concern for WRSA's credibility.

Didn't read the tweets. Happy to look at any link you send.

If you'll note, "the thing speaks for itself" is the title to the piece.

Had I more time and energy last night after the ATL SEIU event, I would have linked the DAG with my comment re Waco back in April, '95 when I was still a NY prosecutor:

"Waco and the whackos....."

I am still ashamed of how much of an a**hole made that comment.

The gist of the piece would have been until you have been part of the government machine, you cannot comprehend both the depth and breadth of the complacency, self-righteousness, lack of tonal perception, and detachment from ground truth possessed by most apparatchiki.

Re JohnGaltFLA's two minute clock, you do get that the doomsday clock is not a literal timepiece, ja? Or is the original not a great graphic and somewhat useful danger indicator (at least during its first 40 years) simply because Tom Lehrer actually got to sing his song nearly six years after the clock's 1947 launch?

People of good faith and good intentions can and do disagree passionately on the inferences to be drawn from a given set of facts.

On the set of facts that comprise America, 2011, I say we are fubar.

Your mileage may vary.

The government last night in ATL making that decision would have been shooting the 9/12, Tea Party, and RTC folks. The force-actors in GA government were acting in support of the SEIU at the State Capitol.

Take a step back, folks - I don't give a damn about whether the DAG was L, R, or what.

We are at a point in our nation's history where sworn state law enforcement officers are discussing (I also don't care about the private vs. public tweet distinction) the use of live ammo against protesting citizens.

That fact, and not the ideological orientation of the actors, is what loosened my sphincter last night.

You should check your settings, likely.

I think Rollory makes some valid points.
We have a right wing statist advocating use of force against left wing statists in Wisconsin and elsewhere. The message and the lesson to all who aim to be free should be: STATISTS WANT CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE, YOUR CHILDREN, YOUR PRODUCTIVITY AND EVERYTHING ELSE!

We who claim to be fighting for freedom keep allowing the statists to frame the debate, set the rules and win the game.

CA: One does not have to be (or have been) a part of the machine to understand how fucking out of control the machine is. One can comprehend how FUBAR the situation is just by trying to be free and faced at every turn with the machine trying to grind away you very existence.

Statists will always advocate use of force against anyone who disagrees with their statist point of view, be it left or right leaning.

The question is: when the hell will freedom lovers engage on the field with anything other than words printed on placards or carrying unloaded guns around to make a point?

The Founders would be shooting by now!!!

CA,

Oh, no fear, I'm on your side here.

I just cried a little when I read Denninger's piece this morning even before I got here.

If my comment came off more tersely than intended, well, that's partly the limitations of the medium and partly because I'm tone-deaf to my own assholeishness. ;)

I did a frame-grab of AspieBoy's twitter feed this morning in preparation for doing a post on the topic, but got sidetracked by work. Look for it at my blog tomorrow.

(Suffice it to say that it's a lot milder than the gaspers at Mother Jones made it look when put back into context...)

CA - You are 100% correct. The plain fact that the POLICE STATE apparatus is fully geared up and - more importantly - psyched up - to kill American Citizens (left or right leaning) for merely speaking out against government policy is truly frightening. These "professionals" are supposed to be the PROTECTORS of law and order, not the henchmen of thugs or the instruments of oppression, but that is what they have now become. This is going to get very very ugly and I don't see any way that it can be avoided. Keep your powder dry and watch your back.

Hasn't this situation been fairly common in American history? Consider these examples: the voting/civil rights movements for women, blacks, hippies, gays; many anti-conscription protests during several wars; some anti-tax protests including the whisky rebellion; scattering two bonus armies. I'm not saying it's proper; I'm saying it's not unique or the first time. And it's not by itself evidence of being closer to the edge of chaos than ever before.
